asked the Minister for Education the present position in regard to the construction of a new national school at Portumna, County Galway.

My Department agreed in principle in 1981 to extend Portumna boys' national school, County Galway. It has been suggested recently that a new school should be provided and it will be necessary to have a comprehensive survey of long-term accommodation requirements carried out to enable the Department to take a decision in the matter.
