asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the action he proposes to take to deal with the unsatisfactory service experienced by telephone subscribers in the Clondalkin area of County Dublin during the past six months; and if he will ensure that these subscribers are granted a rental rebate for the duration their telephones were out of order.

Comment on this
John P. Wilson Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Wilson) Fianna Fáil

A number of cable breaks in recent months caused interruptions of telephone service in the Clondalkin area. Rebates of rental will be granted on request to subscribers who were left without service as a result.

It is planned to provide a new digital exchange at Clondalkin next year to replace the existing exchanges there. This should result in a substantial improvement of service in the area. In the meantime every effort is being made to provide the best possible standard of service with the existing equipment.
