Postal service to Inishmeán and Inishere

Summary

Molloy sought thrice-weekly year-round service to support island industry. Donnellan said current mail volumes did not justify the added cost but would keep the matter under review.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange for a thrice weekly postal service throughout the year to Inishmeán and Inishere, Aran Islands, County Galway, to facilitate the development of industry established there; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Comment on this

The volume of mail generated by existing industries on Inishmeán and Inishere is considered to be adequately catered for by the present frequency of postal service. I am not aware of any proposals for development of industry on the islands which would justify the additional cost of providing thrice-weekly postal service but I will keep the matter under review.
