Roscommon roads and sanitary services allocation
The Minister said 1983 allocations for roads and sanitary services would be made in light of available funding and relevant factors. Leyden pressed for urgent road funding, citing severe deterioration and potholes in Roscommon and East Galway; the Minister said he would consider the allocation.
asked the Minister for the Environment the allocation proposed for (a) roads and (b) water and sewerage schemes for County Roscommon in 1983.

The allocation of funds in 1983 for roads and sanitary services will be made as soon as possible to local authorities, including Roscommon County Council, in the light of the provisions made for the various services in the Public Capital Programme and the Department's Vote and with due regard to all relevant factors.

May I also speak for Roscommon and inform the Minister that the roads there have deteriorated to a large extent in the last few months, particularly——

It is all right. We will get the money from this Minister now.

Is the Minister aware of the number of potholes Deputy Barry was so aware of when he was in Opposition but which he seems to have forgotten since he came into Government and which have worsened to such a degree that one wonders where the roads are, the potholes being so frequent it is difficult to see the roads? Would the Minister in this year allocate a good degree of the Public Capital Programme for roads because this matter is so crucial and urgent? Is the Minister aware of the condition of the roads, particularly in Roscommon, and I would include also East Galway?

I take that last remark to mean that the Deputy has a dual mandate for those two counties.
