Recent electricity price increases

Summary

Blaney sought figures for the past year’s electricity-cost increase and asked whether it was justified. The Minister treated this as a separate question and offered to obtain figures; Reynolds said the increase was 5 per cent.

Can the Minister give us from a relatively recent date the total increase in the cost of electricity for the previous 12 months? Is he satisfied that factors justify the alarming increase which has occurred in the past year?

That, in the time honoured phrase, is a separate question.

Comment on this

I cannot understand how it is so. We are talking about the cost of electricity.

We are talking about a particular inquiry. If the Deputy wishes to have figures, I will get them for him.

Comment on this

For the benefit of the Deputy, it was 5 per cent.
