Darby’s Point Harbour improvements

Summary

An OPW engineering report and cost estimate are awaited before the Department decides whether to improve the harbour. The Minister says the report will be examined promptly, while the Deputy urges faster action given limited space for the growing fishing fleet.

Denis Gallagher Mr. D. Gallagher Fianna Fáil

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he has any plans to expand Darby's Point Harbour, Achill, County Mayo.

Comment on this

: The Office of Public Works have been requested to furnish an engineering report and estimate of cost in respect of improvement works sought at Darby's Point Harbour. Until this report is received and examined in the Department I cannot say what works, if any, will be undertaken at Darby's Point in the fishery interest.

Denis Gallagher Mr. D. Gallagher Fianna Fáil

: Is the Minister aware that the fishing fleet is advancing quite fast here and that they are rather tied up for room at the moment? Will he urge the Board of Works to speed up their report in the hope that some development might take place very quickly?

Comment on this

: The OPW report is not yet to hand. When it is received it will be examined as expeditiously as possible and we will establish what works might be justified at Darby's Point on the basis of the report published by the OPW.
