Fishing vessel prosecutions

Summary

During 1982, skippers of 34 foreign and 11 Irish vessels were arrested and charged with illegal fishing; charges were not brought against two other foreign skippers for lack of evidence.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the number of fishing vessels which have been caught and whose skippers have been charged with illegal fishing in Irish waters during the past twelve months.

: The skippers of 34 foreign vessels and 11 Irish vessels were arrested and charged for illegal fishing in Irish waters during 1982. Charges were not preferred by the Attorney General against the skippers of two other foreign vessels which were arrested during the year because of insufficient evidence.
