Nature reserve orders

Summary

Conaghan asked how many nature reserve orders had been made; the Minister did not have the figure but noted six such areas in Donegal and said the owners would consult before development.

: Might I ask the Minister how many nature reserve orders have been made under the Wildlife Act in the Republic?

: That would seem to be a separate question.

: I have not got that information. However, I can tell the Deputy that there are six such areas in the Deputy's county. I might tell him also that we have been assured by the private owners that they will consult with us before they undertake any proposed development and that they will let us know what they have in mind. At this time they tell us that, from a financial viability point of view, they are not proceeding with the development planned at present.
