Paul Connaughton Minister for State at the Department of Agriculture (Mr. Connaughton) Fine Gael

I propose to circulate the information requested, which is in the form of a tabular statement in the Official Report.

Lettable lands in possession of the Land Commission in County Donegal at 22nd February 1983.

It is not possible to say when all the properties listed will be divided but it is hoped that these estates marked with an asterisk will be wholly or partly allotted within the next 12 months or so.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the acreage of land held by the Land Commission for division in the country and in County Mayo.

Comment on this
Paul Connaughton Mr. Connaughton Fine Gael

The total area of lettable lands held by the Land Commission is 19,543 hectares. This includes 822 hectares held in County Mayo.

Denis Gallagher Mr. D. Gallagher Fianna Fáil

How long has this land been held by the Land Commission and why is there such a delay in dividing it?

Comment on this
Paul Connaughton Mr. Connaughton Fine Gael

We hope that by the end of 1984 approximately 80 per cent of all land held by the Land Commission will have been distributed, but it will be some time after that before all of the land held by the commission in County Mayo will have been distributed.

Are the Land Commission still purchasing land?

The question is confined to County Mayo.

Paul Connaughton Mr. Connaughton Fine Gael

I propose to circulate the information requested, which is in the form of a tabular statement, in the Official Report.

Lettable Lands in possession of the Land Commission in County Cavan at 10 March 1983.

It is not possible to state when all the properties listed will be disposed of but it is hoped that those marked with an asterisk will be wholly or partly allotted in the next year or so. It is not the practice to disclose the prices paid for lands purchased by the Land Commission.
