Agricultural crop statistics and imports

Summary

Treacy requested 1982 crop areas and yields plus cereal and feedingstuff import quantities and values. Barrett supplied available statistics, noting gaps for rye and catch crops; he declined comparative figures because they were not requested, and agreed to provide the omitted gross yields.

asked the Taoiseach (i) the number of acres of (a) barley, (b) oats, (c) wheat, (d) rye, (e) malting barley, (f) sugar beet, (g) fodder beet, (h) mangolds, (i) turnips, (j) potatoes and (k) catch crops grown in the country in 1982 and the gross yields of each; and (ii) the amount of cereals and feeding stuffs imported in 1982 and their value.

Comment on this

(Dún Laoghaire): I propose to circulate a statement showing the latest available information on the area and production of crops together with the quantities and values of unmilled cereals and animal feedingstuffs, respectively, imported in 1982.

Following is the statement:

(i) Area and Production of Crops 1982.

(a) Revised.

(b) These figures relate to 1980.

The area and production of rye are negligible. Information is not compiled on catch crops.

(ii) Imports of unmilled Cereals and Feedingstuffs, 1982.

Would it be possible in circulating these figures to give the comparative figures for last year?

Comment on this

(Dún Laoghaire): Unfortunately, as the question is framed, it did not ask for that information.

The Deputy should put down a question.

The Minister did not include gross yields. Would he be so good as to give that information?

Comment on this

(Dún Laoghaire): Yes, I will give that information.
