Review of Western Development farm scheme

Summary

The Minister said the scheme became fully operational in January 1983 and was attracting steady farmer interest, so it was too early to review.

Mr. Leonard

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the small number of approvals to date under the scheme for the orientation of agricultural production (Programme for Western Development), he proposes to have the scheme reviewed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Comment on this

The scheme for the orientation of agricultural production, which was delayed for a considerable period by industrial action, became fully operational only in January 1983 and there has been a steady response from farmers to it. In view of the short time the scheme has been in operation it would not be appropriate to review it at this stage.
