Donegal tree planting programme

Summary

The 1983 programme provides for 765 hectares across 21 Donegal forests, up from 733 hectares last season; the Minister expects it to be completed by year-end but could not say how much had been planted to date.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry his Department's tree planting programme for 1983 in County Donegal.

It is expected that an aggregate area of 765 hectares — 1890 acres — will be planted in 21 forests in County Donegal during the current planting season. The corresponding area for the last season was 733 hectares — 1,812 acres.

I should like to ask the Minister if he anticipates that the 765 hectares will be planted before the end of the year?

Comment on this

The answer is "yes".

If the Minister is that definite will he tell the House how many acres have been planted to date?

Comment on this

I do not have that information. The question was in relation to the planting programme for 1983 and that envisages the planting of 765 hectares.
