Castlefin–Corcullion sewerage extension

Summary

Donegal County Council’s contract documents remain under consideration. The Minister cannot yet say when approval can be given, citing the need to prioritize major schemes within available capital.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason the contract documents submitted by Donegal County Council in April 1979 concerning the extension to the Corcullion-Castlefin sewerage scheme, County Donegal, have not yet been sanctioned.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 11 and 12 together.

The contract documents submitted by Donegal County Council for a scheme to extend sewerage services from Castlefin to Corcullion are under consideration in my Department.

Having regard to the need to conserve available capital for major water and sewerage schemes of the highest priority in progress or getting to construction at the present time for which adequate finance must be provided, including a large number of schemes in County Donegal, I regret that I am not at present in a position to say when I will be able to convey approval to Donegal County Council's proposals for this sewerage extension.
