Dental Services for Medical Card Holders

Summary

Dr. O’Hanlon questioned whether health boards were providing dental services to medical card holders and asked about transferring the social welfare dental service to the Department of Health. The Minister and Chair treated these as separate from the question on extending benefits to insured workers’ wives.

The Minister said that persons who were holders of general medical service cards were entitled to free dental service. Would he accept that the health boards are unable to deliver a service to holders of general medical service cards because of lack of finance and that the service is not being administered?
