Garda firearms training review

Summary

Gregory asked whether Garda firearms training was satisfactory and needed updating after an inquest into Eamon Byrne’s death. Noonan said firearms use is kept under constant Garda review.

Tony Gregory Mr. Gregory-Independent Independent

Arising from statements made by the gardaí at the inquest of Eamon Byrne, who was shot dead by a member of the Garda Síochána at the North Wall, can the Minister assure the House that the training given to gardaí in the use of firearms is satisfactory and does not require any review or updating?

Comment on this

(Limerick East): That is a separate question. Naturally, the use of firearms is a matter for constant review by the Garda Síochána.
