Ballinamore all-Irish secondary school funding

Summary

Funding is provided to continue the school during 1983–84, with continuation to be reviewed based partly on anticipated enrolment. The Minister confirmed that positive discrimination in favour of all-Irish schools will continue.

asked the Minister for Education if she will give an assurance that money will be provided for the continuation of the all-Irish secondary school at Ballinamore, County Donegal.

Comment on this

The provision made in the Estimates for 1984 allows for the continuation of operation of the school in question under County Donegal Vocational Education Committee. I may add that the question of such continuation will be subject to review by my Department towards the end of the current school-year 1983-84 taking into account all relevant considerations, including the anticipated enrolment of pupils in the school.

Comment on this

Does the Minister consider that special discrimination in favour of such schools should continue?

Comment on this

Yes, there is already positive discrimination in favour of these schools and, obviously, it is continuing.
