Third-level college dispute and examinations
Mrs. O’Rourke sought permission to raise the dispute’s impact on students and threatened examinations on the Adjournment, after two Private Notice requests were refused. The Ceann Comhairle said he would communicate with her and that she could make a separate request the next morning.
I should like the permission of the Ceann Comhairle to raise a question on the Adjournment. On two occasions the Chair disallowed a question Deputy Tunney and I had put forward in regard to the effect a dispute at third level colleges is having on students. Those students cannot continue their studies and there is now a threat to their examinations. Like many Members I have been approached by parents who are worried about this.

The Chair has turned down our request for a Private Notice Question on two occasions and I am appealing to him to permit us to raise the matter on the Adjournment.

I will communicate with the Deputy. The Deputy should bear in mind that there will be two divisions this evening and whatever is allowed on the Adjournment will need to be operated by way of a stop watch.

The Deputy may make a separate request tomorrow morning. We only deal with one day at a time.
