Primary school attendance figures

There were 574,955 primary pupils in 1982–83; projections for 1987 and 1990 were being finalised and would be sent to the Deputy.

asked the Minister for Education the total number of pupils attending primary schools in the State on the latest date for which figures are available; and the number expected to be attending primary schools in (a) 1987 and (b) 1990.

Comment on this

The total number of pupils attending primary schools in the State for the school year 1982-83 was 574,955. The figure includes pupils in private primary schools in so far as these are known to the Department as well as national schools.

Projections of the numbers for the years 1987 and 1990 are being finalised and will be forwarded to the Deputy when available, which may be within a fortnight.
