Summary

The Minister reported 11,450 first-time jobs in grant-aided industry and £121.5 million in capital and training grants, noting that jobs and grant payments do not necessarily fall in the same year.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the average cost to the IDA for each new job created in 1983, where State grants were made available.

John Bruton Mr. J. Bruton Fine Gael

I am informed that the average cost per job for projects approved by the Industrial Development Authority under their various programmes, in 1983 is as follows:

In 1983, 11,450 first-time jobs were created by the IDA in grant-aided industry. Total capital and training grants made by IDA in 1983 amounted to £121.5 million.

The Deputy will appreciate that a number of the first-time jobs created in 1983 arise from grant payments made in previous years. Similarly a number of jobs will be created this year arising from grant payments made in 1983.
