Survey of imported coal quality

Summary

Leonard asked whether coal quality had been surveyed recently; Spring said the Department had not conducted a survey, though importers and the IIRS perform checks.

James Leonard Mr. J. Leonard Fianna Fáil

asked the Minister for Energy if a survey of the quality of the coal being supplied to this country has been carried out recently, and if not, when he proposes to have such a survey carried out.

Dick Spring Mr. Spring Labour Party

No such survey has been carried out by my Department. I understand, however, quality checks are already being made by importers in conjunction with the IIRS.
