Clareview Park service road funding

Summary

Molloy sought a special allocation for a service road serving National Building Agency houses in Ballybane. Kavanagh said the matter was for Galway Corporation, knew of no request from it, and would not commit to providing funds.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make a special financial allocation to Galway Corporation to facilitate the construction of a service road to the front of houses constructed by the National Building Agency at Clareview Park, Ballybane, Galway.

Comment on this

The question of a special allocation for the purpose mentioned is a matter for the housing authority in the first instance.

Is the Minister aware of the difficulties in regard to capital moneys which may be presented to the corporation in seeking to meet the needs or desires of the residents in this case? The houses were constructed by the National Building Agency for the corporation.

Comment on this

This is a matter for Galway Corporation in the first instance and I cannot move away from that.

May I take it from the Minister's reply that he has not received a request from the local authority for a special financial allocation to enable this work to be undertaken? If that is so I should like to ask the Minister if he considers that this change is desirable. Will the Minister be prepared to make money available?

Comment on this

No, I will not indicate to the Deputy that I will make money available. I have no information of any approach having being made to the Department. However, it is a matter for the housing authority and I cannot depart from that in this instance.
