asked the Taoiseach the amount of dairy and meat products exported by Ireland to countries outside the EC who insist on imports from countries with disease-free status from diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease; the names of the countries; and the quantity and type of agricultural products exported.

Dún Laoghaire): I propose to circulate a statement showing the information requested by the Deputy in respect of the year 1983.

Following is the statement:

1. Exports of beef and veal in 1983 to the principal countries outside the EC which require certification of freedom from foot and mouth disease.

2. Exports of pigmeat in 1983 to the principal countries outside the EC which require certification of freedom from such diseases as foot and mouth disease, swine fever, swine vesicular disease, trichinosis and infectious pig paralysis.

3. Exports of dairy products in 1983 to the principal countries outside the EC.

(Dún Laoghaire): In 1983 there were 7,515 tonnes of meat and meat preparations and 0.6 tonnes of dairy products exported to Canada while for the same period there were 867 tonnes of meat and meat preparations and 22,350 tonnes of dairy products exported to Central America.
