Townland-based scheme boundaries

Summary

Treacy asks why some townlands were excluded when the scheme uses townlands rather than electoral divisions and whether Government decides the areas submitted. The Minister says the extension followed Brussels’ criteria; the remaining questions are deferred.

Thomas J. Fitzpatrick An Ceann Comhairle Fine Gael

A final question from Deputy Noel Treacy.

Comment on this

The Minister of State has stated that the townland system is used rather than the district electoral division. Can he tell us why in certain DEDs only one townland was excluded? Will he confirm that it is a matter for the Government to decide what areas are going in when the submission is made?

Paul Connaughton Mr. Connaughton Fine Gael

We based the extension entirely on the criteria laid down by Brussels and that is what we have adhered to.
