I propose to take Questions Nos. 575 and 576 together. A special age-by-duration analysis of the live register is carried out in April and October of each year. This analysis was initiated in 1980 as a result of recommendations contained in the Report of the Interdepartmental Study on Unemployment Statistics (Prl. 7925) published in April 1979. No such cross-classification was compiled for earlier years.

Results of the age-by-duration analysis for the State as a whole, for October of each year from 1980 onwards, are shown in the following table. Equivalent results relating to persons on the live register at local employment offices in the east planning region (Counties Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Wicklow) on the same dates are also provided. Information for areas smaller than planning regions is not readily available.

The following table classifies persons on the live register by age group and duration of continuous registration on the second last Friday of October,1980 to 1984, for the State.
