Protection of Human Embryos
The Minister said rapid advances in fertilisation and embryology raise unforeseen legal and ethical questions, and he intends to recommend a review of the law.
asked the Minister for Health if he is satisfied that our laws give sufficient protection against improper experimentation with the human embryo; and, if not, the action he proposes to take.
Comment on this
The whole field of human fertilisation and embryology has developed rapidly in recent years and has brought into focus internationally a whole range of complex legal, ethical and moral questions which were unforeseen in previously enacted legislation.
In my view it will be necessary to review the legal position in this country in the light of these developments and I intend to recommend accordingly to the Government.
