Army personnel serving overseas

Summary

The Minister reported that 771 Permanent Defence Force personnel were serving with the UN: 742 with UNIFIL in South Lebanon, 21 with UNTSO at locations across the region, and eight with UNFICYP in Cyprus.

There are at present 771 personnel of the Permanent Defence Force serving overseas with the United Nations. Of these 742 are serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon — UNIFIL — and are stationed in South Lebanon. Twenty one officers are serving with the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation — UNTSO. They are located as follows: Damascus, six: Nahariya (Israel), four; Jerusalem, Tiberias and Cairo, three at each location; Beirut and Gaza, one at each location.

Eight Irish Personnel are serving with the United Nations Force in Cyprus — UNFICYP — at the Force headquarters in Nicosia.
