1916 Easter Proclamation commemoration
The Government has no special 70th-anniversary plans; the Arbour Hill ceremony will proceed, alongside plans for a national day honoring war and UN-service dead.
asked the Taoiseach if the Government will consider marking the 70th year since the 1916 Easter Proclamation by a cultural or historic measure or measures, designed to encourage true patriotism based on nonviolence and the common good.
Comment on this
There are no proposals for special commemorative measures this year to mark the 70th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Proclamation. In the past, special commemorative events were organised for the 25th and 50th anniversaries. The annual commemoration will be held in Arbour Hill on 7 May 1986.
Arrangements are also being made, as recommended by an informal Oireachtas all-party committee, for the holding each year of a national day of commemoration to honour all Irishmen and Irishwomen who died in past wars or on service with the United Nations.
