Tarbert Generating Station production

Summary

McEllistrim sought to have Tarbert brought to full production because oil generation was cheaper than coal. The Chair ruled his question insufficiently important for a Private Notice Question and offered the Adjournment; the Minister of State said the Minister was on his way and the House moved on to Question No. 2.

I had a Private Notice Question down for the last two days to ask the Minister for Energy if he would direct the ESB to have Tarbert Generating Station brought to full production as it is now cheaper to generate electricity by oil rather than coal.

You are aware of the reasons for disallowing it, but if you wish to raise it on the Adjournment——

Comment on this

I was rather surprised that the Minister for Energy did not take this question.

It was not up to the Minister to decide whether he would take it. The Chair decided that it was not of sufficient importance.

Comment on this

I should like to raise it on the Adjournment.

The Minister is on his way. Under the new system we answer our own questions and perhaps the House would not mind if we moved on to Question No. 2.
