GNP growth projection for 1986
The Minister projected real GNP growth of about 2½% in 1986, higher than expected at budget time and broadly in line with the national plan, assuming stable oil prices and exchange rates. O’Kennedy objected to the response and declined to ask a supplementary.
asked the Minister for Finance if he will indicate the Government's projection for GNP growth in the economy in 1986; and the way in which this compares with previous Government projections.
Comment on this
The latest projections indicate that, provided oil prices and exchange rates remain stable at about their present level, GNP should grow by about 2½ per cent in real terms in 1986. However, real GDP should grow by over 3 per cent. The rate of economic growth is now expected to be higher than projected at budget time and to be broadly in line with that set out in the national plan.
