Proposed Galway helicopter station

Summary

Desmond asked whether the proposed Galway helicopter station had been cancelled and cited its estimated Exchequer cost; the Chair ruled the matter outside the ferry question, and no substantive answer followed.

Can I take it from the Minister's reply that the proposal of the Taoiseach when he was Leader of the then Opposition that there should be a helicopter station in Galway with services at a cost of £1.2 million to the Department of Defence also is cancelled?

Seán Treacy An Ceann Comhairle Independent

The Deputy is widening the scope of the question. The question deals with ferries.

It is a separate question.

Would the Minister agree that the net Exchequer cost of that proposal is of the order of £1.2 million?

The Deputy is imparting information rather than seeking it.
