Dublin Bus Break-Even Prospects

Summary

Kavanagh asked whether Dublin city services could return to break-even or surplus; the Minister said improving services and attracting more passengers could make that possible.

In view of the high level of fares which operate in the Dublin city services, does the Minister expect the services to return to a surplus or a break even position which was the situation in the Dublin city services when they were part of the whole bus service throughout Ireland and when we were told they subsidised fares for the rest of the country?

Comment on this

I recall when that was so, but it has not been the case for some time. It is a reasonable objective to try to improve services to such an extent that the citizens will avail of them in such numbers that we can break even and finally make a profit.
