Collection of television licence fees

Summary

RTE wants to collect licence fees itself, but the Minister will give An Post another year to improve collection before reviewing the arrangement.

Does the Minister have any plans or proposals to allow RTE collect the licence fees which have been collected by An Post to date?

That is a separate question.

Ray Burke Mr. R. Burke Fianna Fáil

As the Deputy will be aware, An Post collect licence fees on behalf of RTE. RTE have made a strong case to be allowed to collect them themselves. However, An Post have been making very strong efforts to improve the level of collection. I have indicated to them they have a further year, at which date the matter will be reviewed again.
