Unemployment assistance and literacy classes

Summary

Higgins sought to raise the disqualification of unemployed people for attending or teaching basic literacy classes on the Adjournment. The Ceann Comhairle said he would communicate with him.

I would like your guidance in relation to seeking to raise a matter on the Adjournment. Will I have time to do that at the end of Priority Questions or should I do so now?

Since the Deputy is on his feet he might as well do so now.

I would like to raise on the Adjournment the disqualification of unemployed people for unemployment assistance by virtue of the fact that they spent two hours attending basic reading and writing classes in a county in Ireland and the further disqualification of a teacher who is voluntarily teaching basic literacy for two hours a week in another county?

I will communicate with the Deputy.
