Gleeson report discussions and implementation

Summary

Howlin asked about further talks with ICTU and decisions on the report’s recommendations. MacSharry said no further talks or implementation arrangements had been made, but confirmed receiving a Congress submission and meeting its representatives.

Will the Minister say whether any further discussions have taken place with the Irish Congress of Trade Unions on the Glesson report and whether he has come to any decision regarding the implementation of its recommendations?

Comment on this

No further discussions have taken place with ICTU and no arrangements have been made yet but we did say that we would discuss the matter further with them.

Can the Minister confirm that a submission was received by him from the executive of Congress?

Comment on this

I can confirm not only that but that I met representatives of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions on at least two occasions regarding this question.
