Helicopter base for west coast rescues

Summary

Kenny asked about basing a helicopter in the west or northwest for night air-sea rescues. The Minister said a deputation was expected and preliminary discussions had taken place.

In terms of the Estimates can the Minister discuss the provision and placing of a helicopter on the west or north-west coast in order to effect air-sea rescues at night?

The Deputy should put down a question on that.

Is the Minister considering the request of the national committee who want to have one of these helicopters based in the west or northwest? Have they had a meeting with the Minister or his officials to discuss this matter?

Comment on this

(Limerick West): That question does not arise from the question put down. Nevertheless I will answer it. Yes, I understand a deputation are coming to meet me in due course and I have had preliminary discussions with some members from there.
