Medical eligibility for serving troops

Summary

Bell said many troops earn just above the medical-card threshold and therefore miss benefits available to low-income people. The Minister said health boards administer medical services; Connaughton remarked that the news for the Army was all bad.

Is the Minister aware that the majority of serving troops, particularly NCOs and men, are paid a small amount in excess of medical card qualification and as a result do not qualify for benefits available to the unemployed and those on low pay.
