Crumlin oncology funding

Summary

Yates asked about the programme budget and funding for Crumlin’s oncology unit. The Minister said an overall budget was not yet prepared and promised Crumlin an allocation sufficient to provide the necessary service.

I would like to ask the Minister what is the budget outlined for this programme that he has announced today. In view of 1989 being European Cancer Year, will he make special efforts to ensure that adequate funds are available for the oncology at Crumlin Hospital.

The Deputy is extending the scope of the question.

Because a number of different departments and agencies are involved, in the European Cancer Year and as I did not have notice of that question, we have not prepared the budget for all the agencies that will be involved. On the question of the oncology unit in Crumlin, we will be making the allocation to Crumlin Hospital later this week or at the beginning of next week. We will be giving them sufficient money to ensure that they are able to provide the necessary level of service for the people.
