Assurance of a sergeant for Collon

Summary

The Minister reiterated that 50 sergeant promotions were planned but gave no assurance or timetable for appointing one to Collon; McGahon renewed his appeal, citing the station’s border location and Sergeant Morrissey’s sacrifice.

I have given the answer in relation to Collon Garda station and the appointment of a sergeant. All I can do is reiterate what is the position: There is a promotional competition currently taking place as a result of which there will be 50 promotions to rank of sergeant. That will ensure an improvement in the position that has obtained over the last few months.

——in the fight against terrorism, does the Minister not accept that no Garda station in Border areas should be deprived of a sergeant? Will he give an assurance that a sergeant will be appointed to that station?
