Ministers’ Membership of Local Authorities

Summary

The Taoiseach said the Minister for Energy and Minister of State Liam Aylward served on local authorities and health boards; the Minister for Energy planned to resign from both early the following year.

asked the Taoiseach if any Minister or Minister of State is still a member of a local authority, a health board or any of their subsidiary committees; and if so, if he will give details of same.

Comment on this

The Minister for Energy is the only member of the Government serving on a local authority or health board — Tipperary (North Riding) County Council and the MidWestern Health Board. I understand that he will be tendering his resignation from both bodies early next year.

The Minister of State at the Department of Energy, Deputy Liam Aylward, is a member of Kilkenny County Council and the South-Eastern Health Board. The position in relation to other Ministers of State is as I outlined to the House last February.
