asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he has any plans to restore drainage grants as part of the western package.

While drainage as such is not aided under the western package grants are available for drainage works which are a minor but integral part of a land reclamation project. Given the present situation in regard to surpluses on the market the EC Commission is no longer prepared to finance the payment of grant aid for drainage operations.
