Written Answers. - Garda Members' Registration for Postal Vote.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has studied the possibility of removing from the voters' register the indication opposite the name of each member of the Garda Síochána that he or she is entitled to a postal vote; if he has had representations on this subject from members of the Garda Síochána; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Gerard Collins Minister for Justice (Mr. Collins) Fianna Fáil

Yes, I have looked at this question and representations have been made by interested parties. A decision in principle has been taken to remove the provision in the Electoral Acts whereby gardaí are required to be registered as postal voters and it is proposed to have this done at the first suitable opportunity.
