asked the Minister for Finance whether the welfare of animals might be included in the list of organisations and activities which may apply for funding from the national lottery; if the welfare of animals is of considerable importance to the people of this country; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The welfare of animals is not at present one of the purposes for which lottery funds may be used and the Government have no plans to include it in the list of eligible activities.
