asked the Minister for Education if a Management Advisory Committee and a system of accountable management on the lines envisaged in the 1985 White Paper on the Public Service Serving the Public Better are now in operation in her Department; and, if not, whether she has any plans to introduce such a system.

A management advisory committee is in operation in my Department. The particular system of management described in the White Paper on the Public Service, Serving the Public Better, is not in operation. I consider that the management system in operation at present is both effective and efficient and provides adequately for accountability and I have no plans to alter that system.
