Taoiseach’s visit to Northern Ireland
The Taoiseach said he had recently visited Derry and that future public engagements would be announced with security considerations in mind. He confirmed meeting politicians there in April but did not specify their persuasions, prompting a brief exchange with Bruton.
asked the Taoiseach if he proposes to visit Northern Ireland, as was done on previous occasions by his predecessors; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As the Deputy will be aware, I visited Derry recently on the occasion of the inauguration of the Aer Lingus air service with Dublin.
Public engagements of this nature are announced at the appropriate time, having regard to security and other considerations.

While I fully recognise the protocol and security implications attached to the Taoiseach's reply, could he give an indication to the House that we might be pleasantly surprised — in the way that his father-in-law surprised the nation — by a visit to Northern Ireland some time in the near future?

My meeting politicians in the North would be much more productive than the Deputy doing so.
