26 Dr. Lee asked the Minister for Health if she will outline the number of general practitioners registered to practice medicine in the State.

The registration of medical practitioners is a matter for the Medical Council. The council have a total of 9,019 persons registered as medical practitioners and of these the Irish College of General Practitioners estimate that 2,100 are general practitioners.

27 Dr. Lee asked the Minister for Health if she will outline the number of general practitioners who are contracted to the general medical services.

There are currently 1,597 general practitioners contracted to provide services for eligible patients in the general medical services scheme.
