Regional education boards
Deasy opposed regional boards and interference with vocational education committees; Keogh asked whether funding constraints would halt the plans. Bhreathnach said Cabinet had approved the proposals and draft legislation was with the draftsman.
Nobody in the universe knows more about the shortcomings of a centralised education system than the members of the British Parliament. The Minister for Education is making a very serious mistake in advocating regional education boards and interference with the vocational education committees. Does she realise she will have a great deal of opposition not just from the Opposition benches but from the Government parties?

Is the Minister saying that if the funding is not available she will not be able to go ahead with plans for regional education boards, notwithstanding the legislation before the House?

It is very significant that the proposals have been accepted by Cabinet and that the draft heads of Bills have been passed by Cabinet and are now with the draftsman. I have the confidence of my Cabinet colleagues.
