Noel Dempsey Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Dempsey) Fianna Fáil

The minimum age of 17 years at which a person may hold a category B provisional licence or a driving licence to drive a car is in accordance with the harmonised EU regime for driver licensing, and it is not proposed to amend it.
