Withdrawal of Seville summit questions

Summary

Sargent objected that six questions about the Seville summit had been withdrawn despite his request to retain them, denying him a chance to hold the Taoiseach and Government to account. The Chair said the matter was not appropriate at that point and invited him to discuss it in the Chair’s office.

On a point of order, can I ask the Chair to note that I was asked to withdraw six questions I tabled for reply by the Taoiseach today? They have been withdrawn despite the fact that I expressly said I wanted them on the Order Paper.

The matter does not arise at this point.

Comment on this

The fact that the questions, which related to the Seville summit, will not be answered means there will be no opportunity to hold the Taoiseach and the Government to account on the matter.

I suggest that the Deputy may call to my office to make his point, but this is not an appropriate time to do so.

I thank the Chair for the invitation.
