220 Mr. Callanan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if there is a special dispensation for the taxi knowledge exam for non nationals; if there is an exemption from any knowledge based tests on street names or directions given for non Irish born residents; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Michael McDowell Tánaiste and Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. McDowell) Progressive Democrats

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there is no exemption of the kind referred to by the Deputy. Section 34(3) of the Taxi Regulation Act 2003 makes provision for the Commission for Taxi Regulation to establish requirements and conditions for the purpose of the assessment of applicants for the granting of licenses.
