I am advised by the Military authorities that the strength of the Permanent Defence Force as at 30 November 2010, the latest date for which figures are available, was 9,502 personnel, comprising 7,704 Army, 769 Air Corps and 1,029 Naval Service. The total number of days sick leave claimed by members of the Army, Air Corps and Naval Service in the years 2007, 2008, 2009 and to date in 2010, as advised by the Military authorities, is outlined in the following tabular statement.

The Public Service Agreement, 2010-2014 contains a commitment to review current certified sick-leave entitlements and processes in the Defence Forces. Work on this review is expected to commence and be completed in 2011.
